Thursday 6th November 2008 Trent in the Speedway Star

Speedway Star Letters

Having read so much gloom and doom about our sport can I through the letters page publically thank the riders from the Glasgow Buildbase Tigers for their efforts on but especially off track to promote the sport. Glasgow speedway has worked in partnership with Speedway Riders Association, and Glasgow Education and Social Work Services – Determined to Succeed to take the sport to the schools. The mobile Speedway Study Support centre has visited twelve schools working with over 300 children and teachers on digital photography, digital videoing and digital recording which will be edited to produce a primary school radio show. The classes have then visited Ashfield to continue their work.

Trent Leverington has played the perfect captain missing only two visits as he was away mechanicing for Robert Ksiezak at Belle Vue. They even travelled back up from Scunthorpe to a Glasgow school before heading back down to Manchester. His dedication and professionalism is a credit to the sport. He managed to answer all the questions and explain the mechanics of a bike in an exciting and informative way for the children. He was ably supported by the new recruits Mitchell Davey and Josh Grajczonek who were not overawed by a an audience not much younger than themselves, Robert Ksiezak and Shane Parker who travelled up to Scotland from his Southern based even while injured to support the programme.

The culmination of the project is on Monday when the children present their work to the audience and judges at the Graduation Ceremony at Rangers Employability and Enterprise Centre and the children will get the opportunity to thank the riders, promotion, STARs Graham Lister of Buildbase and especially Fraser McDonald of FSM Outdoor Advertising who has attended every session.

This has been an excellent programme for Glasgow school children which has been successful because of the enthusiasm of Trent Leverington who has organised his fellow riders so that no schools missed out and Fraser McDonald who has given up his time to support each session.

Schools are already asking about season 2009 and hopefully they will be working Trent, Shane and his fellow Aussies

Friday 30th October 2008 Monarchs v Tigers

Trent finished the season at edinburgh as the only original Tiger in the line up. With Robert and Josh injured and joined by late call off Lee, Mitch having flown back to Australia on the previous Tuesday and Anders and Shane unavailable the captain was joined by a host of guests and Glasgow asset Robert McNeill.

Unfortunetaly Trent had a night to forget and after his last brilliant performance at Armadale with an very uncharacteristic zero. Im sure there will be no repeat in 2009

Monday 26th October 2008 Glasgow Schools Speedway Graduation Night

6.45pm, Monday 26 October 2008, Rangers Support Centre, Broomloan House, Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow G51 2XD

Speedway challenge competition winners

In May, the Determined to Succeed team from Glasgow City Council launched a the 2008 Speedway Challenge initiative and since then 300 children from twelve different primary schools in Glasgow have taken part.

The scheme has given the youngsters the opportunity to be involved in language, maths and ICT tasks based on speedway. The children learned how to use digital cameras, digital video cameras and digital recorders. These were then used to make electronic posters using Microsoft Publisher. In the new term the children will use their recordings to produce internet radio shows

Their final posters were entered into a competition – the winners being announced on Monday 26th October at a special graduation night.

Gary Condie, Enterprise Education Officer for Determined to Succeed said today: “This exciting venture has been great fun for the youngsters and has see the sport of speedway used as a way to motivate pupils, increase their self esteem and become more effective learners – but above all raise achievement.

“The Poster competition has been very close and the work the youngsters have produced has been wonderful and far beyond all our expectations.”

Australian speedway riders Trent Leverington, Robert Kziesak, Mitchell Davey and Shane Parker who have met the children at workshops over the last few months were at the presentation on Monday evening.

The children showed their posters and gave their 5-minute Presentation to the riders, sponsors, parents and teachers who come along on Monday.

The winners from St Philomena’s Primary and St Martha’s Primary received PSPs from sponsors FSM Outdoor Advertising, Buildbase and the STARs group. The runners up representing, Ruchill AU, St Charles Primary, St Josephs Primary and St Bartholomew’s Primary took home MP3 players sponsored. St Martha’s Primary and St Charles Primary schools win £50 each from John Lewis.

The children received their prizes from Australian Riders Trent Leverington, Robert Ksiezak, Mitchell Davey and Shane Parker who were all very impressed with the Children’s work and knowledge of Speedway.

The riders and sponsors were thanked for their help and support and the presented them with their own certificates and a momento of the season.

Sunday 12th October 2008 Tigers v Monarchs

Trent Leverington (C)....2  3  3  3  X  0  - : = 11

On a beautiful Autumnal day started with the captains in the back of a Rolls Royce. Tigers had RR for Robert Ksiezak

Heat 4
Trent Leverington showed first, but Matthew Wethers, having overcome last week's troubles, made a good run off turn 2 to nip through and take the lead. Although Trent kept it close the one-time Tiger was in command.
Wethers, Leverington, Andersen, Summers (3-3) (17-7) - 60.9

Heat 5
Trent came in as Rider Replacement for Tigers, with Fisher coming in as Rider Replacement for Monarchs, with the added tactic of being nominated for a Tactical Ride. Trent made a solid start, with Peter getting in to the mix on the turn, Trent pulled away for an easy win to temper the tactical move
Leverington, Fisher(TR), Lawson, Juul (3-5) (20-12) - 59.7

Heat 7
Trent powered through the turn to lead

Leverington, Tully, Fisher, Davey (3-3) (28-16) - 61.0

Heat 11
Trent was commanding in the turn, with Anders into third. The Dane tried to go for it on turn 3, but this ended up costing him third as 'white liner' Tully took advantage of Lawson holding him out.
Leverington, Lawson, Tully, Andersen (3-3) (37-31) - 61.4

Heat 13
A tight first turn saw Lawson hit the deck again, but this time all four were called back. Tigers' Aussie duo did what was necessary to get to the front and looked in command. Wethers to exploit a hole on the inside to drive under the Tigers' skipper. Trent was determined to get back on terms but his over-enthusiasm on the next turn saw him do a pirouette and Lawson had to take evasive action.
(Rerun)Wethers, Parker, Lawson, Leverington (F.Exc) (2-4) (42-38) - 61.4

Heat 15
Trent missed the start
Fisher, Wethers, Parker, Leverington (1-5) (45-47) - 60.8

Heat 4
Mitchell gated but Trent was disappointed to be stuck at the back.

Heat 7
Trent and Fisher clashed on the run to the turn causing Tully to fall.
In the rerun the monarchs made the start
(Rerun) Tully, Fisher, Leverington, Davey   (1-5) (20-22) - 61.5

Heat 11
Tully gated sharp, but Anders powered round him on the turn although Trent made little impression on second.
(Rerun) Andersen, Tully, Leverington, Piszcz(F.Exc)   (4-2) (35-31) - 60.5

Heat 13

Shane made it from the start and Trent kept tight on turn 2 to hold off the Monarchs' challenge and join Tigers' main man for the maximum to take Tigers back again into the lead.

In the Semi final he beat Elite rider David howe into third place even though Howe had made the gate. Both Piscz and Trent passing him at the same time. Friday 19th September Monarchs v Tigers

The Tigers travelled to Armadale for the re-rearranged match with the Monarchs According to reports on the http://www.glasgowspeedway.com suggests that it was not a classic meeting but that Glasgow who many home fans expected to be trounced left with their heads held high. A 54-39 match was not as comfortable as they had hoped.

Shane with 19 and Trent with 10 +1 led the way but the R’R for Robert only yielded 4 points. Only this was better than Robert score there in April he has hit a rich rein of form since then. Our guest for Josh had a nightmare score 0 from 3.

Trent managed to lay the ghost of Armadale to one side after tonight’s performance. It was Trent’s highest score round the Dale where his average currently runs at 3.68 from 9 matches. His previous best was 6+1 and 7 in April while his best is 6+2 back in 2005.

He was unlucky to race against the home form of Ryan Fisher in 4 of his races losing 3 times but beating him in Heat 15. Trent along with Shane were the only two Glasgow riders to defeat top scorer for the Monarchs William Lawson

Monday 15th September 2008 Captains statement

After having a very busy week away down south helping Robert with his Belle Vue meetings and Australian U23 meetings it was really good to get back on a bike myself, it felt like a month since the last team meeting we had properly cause of all the rain offs of late.

I probably should start by saying how pleased I was to see David have a really good turn out for is farewell meeting, because god knows he deserved it, he is truly one of the nice guys of the sport. The meeting its self was a tough one with the weather conditions, but full credit to all the riders for riding with there heads and just getting out there and giving it a go.

Yesterday against Berwick was always going to be a tough meeting because Berwick have been going really well of late but saying that we were all confident for a home win. It was really good to see all 6 of us getting at least one race win on the day. Personally I was pretty happy with the way I rode having some good close races with the Berwick boys, just a pity about my few low away scores the last month or so, but believe me I am trying a lot of different bike and engine set ups to get it sorted quick smart.

TRENT

Sunday 14th September 2007 Tigers v Berwick Bandits

What looked a comfortable match on paper didnt turn out that way on the day. Tigers won by 7 with trent and Shane top scoring. Berwick owed the closeness to their guest Tomaz Picz who score an 18pt maximum including a 6 pointer. Trent scored 13+1 from 6. trent started with a win before Heat 7 (from Glasgow website)
Trent and Makovsky traded elbows on the run to the turn, but the Berwick stalwart rode Tigers' skipper high into the turn. This left a hole for Mitchell to try, but Makovsky was too experienced to let it go and Trent also ran through. The Czech ran out the winner, but Trent was less than impressed with his tactic. Good performance from trent with two wins and two defeats by the unbeatable Piscz

Trent went from hero to 1 point at Scunthorpe. He had major problems and couldn’t get on with the track no matter how hard he tried

Scorecard

Sunday 24th August 2008 Tigers v Stoke Potters

The Tigers bounced back from a disappointing week with a comfortable victory over the Stoke Potters. For the first time since April the Tigers tracked their own seven riders. Robert moved to 1 with Shane at 3 and Trent at 6. Stoke brought in track specialist Ryan Fisher from the Monarchs to guest for Lee Complin but he didn’t trouble the score chart with just 3 seconds places from 5 rides. Up to the final race the Tigers had three riders on maximums. After heat 15 Trent with a full 15 and Shane with a full 12 took home maximums.

Trent went through the card unbeaten for the second time this season. Not only did he gate superbly all day he was also forced to come from the back. In heat 4 he had to go round the outside of Moore on turn 3 which two weeks ago he had demolished in a frightening crash, He comfortably won his other 4 races beating Stoke heat leaders Barker, Moore and Fisher twice each.

He even had time after the meeting to prove to his team mates he can do donuts.!!

Thursday 21st August 2008 Redcar v Tigers

Tigers put up a better showing at Redcar. Losing 55-38. However most of the scoring was made up by Shane who scored 15 and guest Claus Jacobsen in to replace the injured Josh.

Trent started with a second behind fellow Aussie Ty Proctor but only added another 2 thirds and two lasts in his uncharacteristic 4 points.

.Trent had 2 seconds and 2 thirds in his 6 points. In heat 4 he made the gate and was able to block the Kings Lynn man but unfortunately he left a gap which Smith exploited. In his next heat the KL pair made the gate but Trent annoyed them for four laps just missing out on taking 2nd. In heat 13 after both tigers were at the back first Robert passed Harrison followed soon after by Trent

Sunday 10th August 2008 Trent crash update 2200hrs

Trent was today involved in a horrendous crash on the 3rd bend when he and Ricky Ashforths bikes locked together and then crashed into the fence demolishing about 20 feet of fence. Latest statement from Trent and Julie is

"Trent has had the all clear from the hospital. The x-rays on the neck were clear. He is sore and needs to take it easy. We would like to thank everyone for their caring calls calls and texts. We appreciate all the support" Julie

Sunday 10th August 2008 Tigers v Sheffield Tigers

Glasgow just failed to win a meeting which had as they say just about everything. Rain and more rain, crashes, exclusions more crashes, destroyed fence and a fight in the pits. All in all it took three and a half hours to complete. Glasgow finished with 5 riders with Lee Dicken withdrawn and then Trent involved in one of the most horrible crashes witnessed at Ashfield. Trent and Ricky Ashworth appeared to lock handlebars as they went up the back straight. With both unable to turn or get off they slammed into the fence with Trent landing in the safety zone. After lengthy treatment Trent was taken to hospital although he told the rest he was fine. After 40 minutes the fence was rebuilt and the match resumed.

Josh top scored with 16+4, Robert with 10 and Mitchell with 7+1. Without the usual high scoring guest, Lee's injury, Anders out of sorts and Trent’s usual contribution the team ended up losing by 2- 44-46

Sunday 3rd August 2008 Tigers v Somerset Rebels

Top of the table Somerset were dispatched on Sunday with another powerful performance from the Tigers. After torrential rain all day in the Springburn area fans were amazed to see the track being watered before the meeting. After an initial set back in heat 1 losing a 5-1 the tigers then won 9 races in the 51 39 victory. Josh led the way with 16+2 who was ably supported by Trent and Robert.

Trent carried on from where he left off with Heat 3 5-1 with Robert their sixth in the last two home matches. He then made the gate with Doyle but Jason muscled his way round the second bend for a very impressive victory. In heat 9 both Tigers made the gate but Frampton went across the second bend catching Trent’s front wheel causing him to shut off. Trent pressed all the way but couldn’t find a way passed the Rebel. Heat 14 was an amazing race with Jason Doyle coming through from 15m. On the last lap he passed Trent but he was not finished and dived up the inside coming into the 3rd bend forcing Jason wide on the 4th. Trent held on to take the 2nd behind Josh. A valuable 8+1 from 4 from Trent.

Monday 28th July 2008 Reading Racers v Tigers

Glasgow Tigers travelled to Smallmead for the last time hoping to continue Sundays form. An eight point defeat in the old days would have got Tigers a bonus but in this season it only counts as a loss. Top scoring from Magnus and Josh kept the Tigers in it as the other struggled. The turning point was heat 7 when Glasgow were on an 8-1 before Mills bailed out while passing Trent- referee excluded Trent and in the rerun it was a3-4 for  the Racers. An 8-1 from Robert and Trent would have narrowed the gap to 2.

With many of the Tigers seeing the track for the first time it was a good score. Trent struggled after being excluded when Mills tried to pass him. 1 from 3 for Trent. Scorecard on Speedway Updates

Sunday 27th July 2008 Tigers v Reading Racers

Glasgow Tigers winning record around Saracen Park stretched to 3 with an easier than expected victory over the Reading Racers. With Anders gaining a ‘real’ average changes had to be made to the team with Anders moving to number 5 and Robert reunited with Trent at 3 and 4. Everyone was paid for at least a win with Tigers winning 12 of the heats in a 60 -32 victory.

Lee and Robert were only beaten by Doolan Trent was the star of the night and took a magnificent 15 point paid maximum. He team roade with robert in three of their heats before winning heat 14. He then gated and held a strong first and second bend over the Racers. He celebrated his first maximum of the season with wheelies and donuts on the 4th bend.

From the website--David has added the names of Trent and Robert to the Glasgow side. He said: “Who better to represent the Tigers than two guys who have been doing the business regularly this year. Trent had a spell out due to injury but is back now and racking up the points. “Robert is also a great rider and was a smashing team-mate. He has probably been the most consistent Tiger this year and is surely destined for greater things. Both of these Aussie lads will be hard to beat on the day.”  More info from David McAllan website

Sunday 20th July Tigers v Mildenhall Tigers

The Tigers from Glasgow made it two in a row with a comfortable win over Mildenhall. Surprisingly no maximums for glasgow  although many felt there would be a couple when they started with  what looked like two 5-1s before Mitch hit the bump on the 3rd bend. Stoney Anders and Trent still held on to their maximum hopes after 2 rides but only Trent kept his until heat 15. Good starts and powerful first bends took him to 12 out of 12 having beaten all their riders, However in heat 15 he was out gated by a rejuvenated Ricky Ashworth who had scored 1 from 2 rides before reeling off 15 from his last  A very confident and assured performance from Trento.

Sunday 13th July 2008 Tigers v Rye House Rockets

After nearly a month away from Ashfield because of the GP, southern tour and the weather. the tigers returned home triumphant after their victory at Mildenhall. they faced a very difficult task against a Tai Woofinden inspired team including track specialists Stefan Edberg and Chris Neath and also 3pt sensation Robert Mear who is potentailly the most improved 3pointer. Unusually the Tigers took a 10 -2 lead after Stoney and Lee followed by Josh and Mitch took 5-1s. By heat 6 it was 14 points until Tai was given the B&W helmet . Rockets took a 7-2. Closest the Rockets got was 5 until Trent won the last 2 including a superb win over Woofinden ending his maximum hopes. Trent was back on form after his recent injuries and illness - his 13pts made up of 3 wins and 2 seconds. Heat 15 was one of the races of the season with Trent beating a rider who has notched up 50 odd points this weekend.

Monday 30th June 2008 TLR Update

Well with what seamed like a month with out a meeting due to rain off at Workington and at home the following day, it was good to finally get a meeting in and it could not have been better for the team to get a good away win at Mildenhall all 6 of us (+ good old Stoney) We were well up for it and I think it showed with good scores from every one.
For me personally it was good to get 2 heat wins and a 2nd to get my confidence back up a bit and to also get my 1st away win as captain was really cool as well. I know now that all the boys are keen to carry this onto Thursday at home with a good home win to give all our supporters at Ashfield something to cheer about, cause we know you all need it.

See you all Thursday

Sunday 29th June 2008 Mildenhall v Tigers

After all the rainoffs recently it was good for the Tigers to get back into action in the Fenlands. Mildenhall are probably having an even more disappointing season than us and are hoping to strenthen up their team with the signing of Theo Pyjper. However the signing wasnt through in time for Sunday with Chris Schramm  guesting for the Fen Tigers. Stoney again stepped in at number one. The team won comforatbaley 35-56 for their first league vistory away from home in 2008. Trent scored 8 from his three completed rides having suffered an exclusion when first bend buching is usually the decision.

Stoney 9+2, Lee 5+2, Anders 10+3, Trento 8, Robert 13, Mitch 3, Josh 8+3

Wednesday 18th June 2008 TLR Update

Well on a whole last weekend meetings were pretty much a disaster for me, I am really still struggling with my left hand and wrist. Its something I thought would have got better by now but its taking a little bit longer than I thought. Somerset is a track I really like and normally go good at but Friday I was just not making starts. Stoke an the other hand was better, its a track I have ridden at for 2 years so I knew the set up straight off and ended up with 8 points, not too bad but I was hoping tor a few more. Sunday at Glasgow was just a total disaster for me, I was not making starts and lacking confidence in the first corners, I think it’s just my recent run of crashes but it’s something I need to get over.
Myself and Josh spent a good part of Tuesday at the track practicing so I am feeling a lot better now and am looking forward to the coming weekends trip to Workington and then home on Sunday to my old club stoke.

See you all on Sunday

Another disappointing performance against the Brummies saw the Tigers fall to a 40 53 home defeat. While Robert and Stoney score well and Mitch picked up a win in heat 2 and Josh made an earlier than expected comeback the rest of the team struggled to match the Brummies.

Trent was unlucky to meet the in form Jason Lyons in his first two rides and have an engine failure in his 4th ride scoring 4 points.

Sunday 8th June 2008 Tigers v Workington Comets

Trent made his home comeback in a very warm day. Trents 8 from 5 was a very encouraging performance where he was only beaten by the powerful Comets heat leaders, Nermark, Stonehewer and Neiminen. Trent was gating well and took victory in heat 8 from the hard pressing Tomi Riema

A huge thank you to the walking wounded Tigers Shane, Trent and Josh who along the two fit members of the team Robert and Mitchell for making a class of childrens afternoon very special.
